something magical will be happening in the sky; a full moon, also known as the Grass Moon. A full moon occurs when the Earth is located directly between the moon and sun, and the moon’s surface appears fully illuminated.
Cool huh? Why would anyone want to sit home and binge-watch old sitcoms on Netflix instead of getting outside and enjoy the night sky?
• Friends of Lost Maples member, Greg Walton, will be leading a Full Moon Hike down the East Trail to the Monkey Rock and return on the Maple Trail, beginning at 8:30pm.
• The guided hike is free with your paid park entrance and open to all ages! No reservations needed! If you arrive after the office is closed, be sure to utilize the self-pay station (cash, check or Texas State Park Pass only) located at the park headquarters, or you can go online and purchase your entrance before you even leave home!
• Meet at the Day-use parking lot and don’t forget to bring appropriate clothing for cool weather, snacks, drinks, a walking stick, comfortable shoes, glow sticks for youngsters who may be afraid of the dark and a flashlight/headlamp for emergency or use in the parking lot.
• We will be hiking strictly by the light of the moon and ask that flashlight/head lamps be turned off to preserve the moonlight.
• It’s also fun to bring binoculars along on a full moon hike. Or you can leave a telescope in your car at the trailhead for a little stargazing before or after the hike.
